Phyllis Althea “Thea” Fullen
May 22, 1934 - February 22, 2019

Phyllis, 84, passed away February 22, 2019 at her home in Walla Walla. Her Viewing will be Thursday, February 28th, from 9am to 6pm with a Rosary beginning at 6pm, and viewing Friday, March 1st, from 8:30am to 10:00am all at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 The Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, March 1st, at 1pm at Assumption Church, 2098 E Alder Street, Walla Walla, with interment immediately follow at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, 300 SE Myra Road, College Place, WA 99324. There will be a reception back at the church following the interment.
Phyllis was born to Henry and Edna (Barron) Saxton in Somerset, PA on May 22, 1934. She had two sisters, Patricia and Joyce and the three were raised in Winber, PA. Phyllis graduated high school in 1952 and joined the United States Air Force. She met her husband there and she discharged in May of 1954. On March 13, 1954 Phyllis married Richard Fullen in Yakima, WA, they had five children; Debra, Bill, Al, Mark, and Beverly. The couple were married for 58 years.
Phyllis and Richard moved around the country with the USAF for many years and they were eventually stationed in Walla Walla in 1967. She worked as a sales clerk starting with Thrifty Drug, then, State Hardware/Tylers, and when Tylers closed she went to work for Saint Vincent DePaul retiring in 1998.
Phyllis was a friend to all, a friend for life. She never got tired on telling her story or hearing yours! She loved to tell anyone who would listen that she was really a “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Phyllis bragged about her five kids and would do anything to bring them together; she always loved large family gatherings.
Phyllis is mourned by her children; Debra Fullen, Beverly (Chuck) French, William (Shelly) Fullen, Alfred (Sally) Fullen, Mark (Joanie) Fullen, grandchildren; Joshua Avila, Heather Aichele, Janelle Siller, Richard, Shelby, Brian, and Robert Fullen, Phillip and Michael Provost, Catherine Dobbins, Samantha, McKenna, and Christopher French, along with 27 great-grandchildren. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Henry and Edna Saxton, sisters, Patricia and Joyce, and by her grandson Jeremy Fullen.
Memorial contributions may be made to Assumption-The Blessed Virgin, or Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home. Friends and family may share memories and sign the online guestbook at www.mountainview-colonialdewitt.com
