Obituary for Edward L. Imes

In Loving Memory
Edward L. Imes October 30, 1946 – July 22, 2017

Edward Lee Imes passed away from cancer on July 22, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born October 30, 1946 to Garfield and Wilma Imes in Tacoma, Washington. He was raised on McNeil Island where he attended school, the family then moved to Fox Island. Ed graduated from Lakes High School in Tacoma in 1965. He then attended Tacoma Community College. While in Tacoma he had worked for J.C. Penney. He went on to continue his schooling at Central Washington State College in Ellensburg, WA graduating in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration. Ed married Linda Hursh on July 19, 1969 in Tacoma; he passed just after celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary. While in Ellensburg Ed worked nightshift for the Husky Truck Stop and attended college during the day. After college graduation he was hired by American Hardware Insurance Company and his territory was the Walla Walla area, including Tri-Cities, Dayton, Yakima and many towns in Eastern Washington. During his 37 year career with American Hardware Insurance Company which dealt with business insurance, he made many lifelong friends. In 2009, he was disabled with a back injury. The couple’s first son Kenneth was born in June 1973, in September 1977 their second son Daniel was born; he was very proud of both of his sons. Ed was very active in all the boy’s sports, he coached them in Little League and Hockey, and he was a soccer referee. Ed was also a full time volunteer for USA Hockey. He was the registrar for hockey teams in the west including Washington, Oregon and California, for over 25 years. Hockey was in his blood! He really enjoyed all the friends he made in the hockey family. Ed also was called “Farmer Ed” by most, for his great gardens; it was his pride and joy. He loved the outdoors; he grew up fishing and hunting and enjoyed it all. Later in life he learned to golf and that was another outlet to have fun, (he had to give that up though when he had major back problems). Ed was blessed with two grandsons, Payton in March 2000 and Charlie in 2010, Ed was happy to have had them as much as possible.
We would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Batson and nurse Jennifer for all they did for Ed. Also to the wonderful staff at the Providence Medical Cancer Center as well as Walla Walla Community Hospice for all they did in Ed’s last days. Special thanks to Morgan, Susan, Timber and Nancy. Ed leaves behind his wife of 48 years, sons, Ken and Dan (Elizabeth), brother Terry (Donna), brother Larry (Debbi), sister Sharon, brothers-in law, William and Brad, grandsons, Payton and Charlie and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church’s Fellowship Hall on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1:00 P.M., a reception lunch will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice or to a charity of choice; memorials may be sent care of Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362. Friends and family may share memories and sign the online guestbook at
